About Me

My photo
I graduated from Western Illinois University with an Art Education Degree and am a Certified Art Teacher. I have three boys 12,15 and 18 who are all artists in their own right. My dream has been to have my own studio where I can teach students way beyond what they can do in the public schools. I have a wonderful relationship with the art teachers in district 155 and 47 High Schools and Elementary, and am able to work with their curriculum if the student desires that. My studio is located at Lakeside Legacy Arts Park in Crystal Lake, IL next to the Dole Mansion. My lessons are based on individual needs and abilities. My goal is to help the student develop confidence in their artwork and a sense of their own technique through studying other artists. Artistic expression has many forms and I believe each individual has a unique ability to express themselves through their art.

What kinds of Classes do you offer?

When people call me to ask about classes the number one question seems to be "what kinds of classes do you offer?" My response is this: At this point I offer lessons to individual students ages ranging from 10 up to high school.  I do take students younger than 10 depending on their level of interest in art and I certainly would take students older than high school depending on their needs.  Any student younger than that usually benefits from a group of students to help with their social skills and their attention span.  I am hoping to have enough interest to start some classes of 5 or 6 students ages depending on need.  I'm very flexible and willing to try new approaches as needed.  I start my students based on personal abilitly and we go from there.  My lessons cover almost any kind of art your student may be interested in but I'm unable to teach throwing clay on a wheel because I don't have one at this time, that will hopefully change in the future! I love to throw clay! My lessons are once a week for an hour and I'm very flexible with other schedules.  My schedule will change for the school year usually starting around 3:00PM until about 6PM, as I get more students this too may change as I will have to extend my hours and always including home schoolers!!   If a student misses a lesson we can re-schedule at a time when both myself and the student are available.  I charge monthly so if a lesson is missed I do my best to make it up whether the student or I cancel.  This of course may change based on time allowances but I would always make sure to fit a student in if I was unable to be at a lesson.  All lessons have a purpose and I try very hard to cover a lot of different media to give the student lots of opportunities to expand on their skills.  I also believe it's important to attach some art history to our projects as much as possible.  My studio is a safe place to learn and I always want to make sure that all students feels completely safe to create without fear.  Please feel free to call if you have more questions or post your questions here and I will try to answer them the best I can.  Teaching is what I love to do the most! Teaching art is what I do the best!

Summer at Lakeside

I'm offering "Training Your Brain" workshops for new and more experienced artists.  Learn to draw in a whole new way, learn to see differently simply by training your brain to respond differently.  Check it out!
This workshop is for all artists because we never stop learning!

I will also be offering "Capture Summer on Paper" where we will explore the many different ways to draw and paint a landscape outside in the wonderful summer weather! This is offered to those who are interested in improving their skills and learning new ones.  Come commune with the summer sounds and colors and capture them on paper!
